First Annual Rabbit Run 5k

The Madison County Chamber hosted it's first annual Rabbit Run 5k Color Run and Egg Hunt Saturday, March 25th, at Renaissance at Colony Park. Over 150 participants gathered that morning to run or walk the course beginning at Steed Road, heading down Sunnybrook Road through Holmes Community College, following the trail along the Natchez Trace and ending down Highland Colony Parkway. Several participants showed their team spirit by dressing in brightly colored tutus and t-shirts, hoping to win "Best Dressed" Team or Individual.

There were six color stations, each sponsored by a Chamber business member, where brightly colored powder was thrown at race participants as they passed by. Sponsors were Patina Hair Studio, 4 Corner Properties, 1st Franklin Financial, Revell Ace Hardware, StorageMax, and AFC.

Immediately following the 5k, the awards ceremony was held on the green space at Renaissance at Colony Park. Awards were given for Overall Male and Female Walker and Runner, various age groups for male and female walker and runner, Best Dressed Team, and Best Dressed Individual. We had a great crowd that cheered on each winner.

After the awards ceremony, we held an egg hunt on the green space for three age groups - 0-2, 3-4, and 5-6. Volunteers spread out eggs and then the kids grabbed as many eggs as they could to "cash in" for various prizes. The last age group also got to hunt for a special prize - the "golden egg" - that held a $20 bill!

We also had Mr. and Mrs. Bunny, courtesy of the Salvation Army, on hand for selfies and a beautiful balloon backdrop thanks to the generous donation from Glam It Up Balloons. Kids and adults alike were excited to see the Easter bunnies!

We could not have asked for better weather or a better turn out for our first 5k event. Initial feedback was that it was a fantastic family friendly event, something different for the kids to participate in, and a great way to get families and friends together!

We look forward to this becoming an annual Chamber event and cannot wait to see everyone again next year!
